Offgrid PV systems in Tusheti (Georgia)
Last year we have implemented the project "Electrification of remote areas - Tusheti, Georgia", financed by the Czech Development Agency, Czech Republic. In this project we have provided 62 off-grid PV systems for the inhabitants of Tusheti national park in Georgia, to be used as power supply for lighting and to run small household appliances. The PV systems have been built of Sunnywatt components (Sunnywatt 180Wp monocrystaline modules, Sunnywatt Island inverters (300, 600, 1000 and 2500W) and Sunnywatt Island batteries (50 - 200Ah, 12V) using locally manufactured mounting structures. The assembly was done in cooperation with Georgian PV systems integrator named SunHouse.
Due to the upcoming winter season the installation was very difficult and we have to use all the assets and facilities available (including helicopter transport etc.) to finish the systems in time. Finally we succeed, the Tusheti yearlong residents received their PV systems before the snowfall cut off the villages from the rest of the world for 6 months or even longer. For most of the Tusheti inhabitants it was the very first electricity source in their houses.
The project will continue this year. We will come back to Tusheti once winter is over to see how the PV systems are working and how the users are satisfied with them. All the recipients of the Sunnywatt Island PV systems have two year standard warranty and after-sale counseling for free.
