Electricity generated by photovoltaic panels can be fed into the electricity distribution grid. Unlike in the case of island systems, electrical energy is not accumulated and so the user does not have to purchase accumulators. When there is sufficient sunlight, a portion of the generated energy is consumed by the user and the rest is fed into the grid. During periods of insufficient sunlight or at night, the user consumes electricity from the grid. In the distribution box of the given building or site, another electrometer is installed to measure the electricity that your photovoltaic system supplies to the grid.

Once you have decided to purchase a solar power plant, you have to make an important decision that will have impact on the payback period of the investments. Here is a brief summary of forms of electricity buyout:

Direct sale

Electricity is fed into the grid and based on the electricity meter reading, the customer is paid a set amount according to the feed-in tariff. The customer then purchases electricity from the distribution network for their own use.

The “Green bonus”

The customer receives payment, the Green bonus, for all the energy generated (more information here: Legislation). To these earnings, energy savings resulting from the consumption of one’s own generated electricity are added (that is, savings for electricity not bought). If the amount of energy generated exceeds the consumption of the building or site, the surplus is fed to the grid. In addition, the customers may legally negotiate with their own consumer of generated surpluses and, on a contractual basis, sell electricity to them for a higher price. Unluckily, this option is not easily put into practice as it is difficult to find a consumer who will accept the risks of unsteady electricity generation.
